CURATED RESIDENCE

My client was downsizing to a new residence that we completely gutted . Her antique collection was vast including an incredible collecton of stained glass lamps. I had to figure out how she could keep many of her lamps , clocks and figures. I decided to take the longest wall in the house - in the living room and designed a built-in to showcase this most beautiful collection. Installing the lamps to be lit has made this built-in a beautiful curated tour de force. The client was overwhelmed with the result.

My main thinking in selecting materials for the new home was to give a cleaner new look which would be a foil to the owners collection. A feel of freshness and lightness and surprise. For example, I selected Fornesetti wallcovering for the ceiling in the powder room and Philip Jeffries silver cork paper for the walls giving a lightheartedness and a smile to this most serious collector’s home. The light grey kitchen cabinetry with iron hardware, white glazed subway tile , and the island’s marble surface with straight markings add a touch of contemporary character. I can go on and on but enjoy the pics. Btw a scond kitchen was designed for the lower level party time and guests.
